Prescription Opioid-Related Issues in Northern Ontario: a pan northern strategy framework for action on misuse, abuse and diversion
The report examines the increasing rate of prescription opioid addiction in northern communities. Currently these communities are lacking the resources for withdrawal support and non prescription pain management resulting in increased addictions. The report looks at the current research on opioid addiction in the north and begins to develop a plan for treating pain in these communities without depending strictly on prescriptions. Also discussed is a future framework for working in northern communities while working around the implications of provincial and federal legislation in the north.
